English Classes

We have been teaching English classes for 2 weeks now.  We have a total of 22 students and are having fun building relationships with them.  Along with teaching them English, we have been hosting Friday night parties at the TLC Center and also having dinner with a few students after class.  We really appreciate their hospitality and taking us to the best Thai food resturants near Chiang-Mai University. 

This week, some students in Julie's first class wanted to give a tour of a nearby wat called Wat Umong.  They worked on translating information into English and presented their tour while we visited the wat on Thursday.  It is amazing to be in something that was built 700 years ago!  Along with seeing the sights at Wat Umong, we fed huge catfish, turtles, doves, and geese at a small, peaceful lake in the wat.  It was an enjoyable field trip and helped us to learn a little bit more about our students. 

We have also been learning about our students through the stories they share during class.  Each day, a new student is assigned to share a story about themselves to the class.  This has encouraged them to speak English for a long period of time and also gain confidence in their speaking skills.  It has also allowed some students from TLC church to share testimonies about how God has changed their life.  One student shared how she had been diagnosed with breast cancer, something her mother had died from a few years earlier.  At TLC church, people prayed for her and two weeks later she returned to the hospital for a follow-up visit.  At her follow-up visit the doctor told her that there was no longer a lump!  At that moment she knew that God had healed her and began her journey as a Christian.  Since then, God continues to transform her life.  It was a powerful story to hear and a demonstration of the power of God.  Additionally, this past Wednesday a student in Scott's class attended a cell group at TLC church that is held each Wednesday after English classes.  After the cell group, the student told Scott that he had a powerful feeling and really enjoyed the group.  Please continue to keep us and our students in your prayers.  Please pray that we are able to continue to show God's love and he continues to work in the lives of our students.

Tonight, we are getting ready to have a Fiesta with our students after class!  We will be cooking tacos and making guacamole as well as dancing to salsa music, playing games, and continuing to build relationships.  We can't wait and are very excited to have this opportunity to hangout with our students.
